Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee Mission Statement

The purpose of the Diversity Committee is to work collaboratively to create a diverse and inclusive environment and to advocate for the recruitment, retention and promotion of physicians from diverse backgrounds (race, gender, age, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic and disability). In doing so, we encourage those in our environment to promote understanding and equality of opportunity for each individual realizing that the “road traveled” for each individual differs.

Charge: The committee along the with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion have been charged with immediate action to increase the number of underrepresented minorities trainees and faculty within the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. We envision that implication of diversity and inclusion in our community will result in an increase in productivity, a sense of belongingness in our environment, more platforms to express innovative ideas, more exposure to new markets, and greater opportunity for personal and professional growth.
